East Bengal have confirmed Armando Colaco to be their head coach in the 2014-15 campaign. The five-time I-League winning coach has agreed on a new one-year contract.

The club and the coach failed to come to an agreement for weeks with each party putting forward several terms and conditions. But eventually the Kolkata giants successfully negotiated a new deal keeping in mind Colaco’s phenomenal record in Indian football.

The 61-year-old took charge in November 2013 and guided East Bengal to a runners-up finish in the I-League besides winning the local league.

The former Dempo coach’s suggestion to have a new gym instructor and nutritionist has been accepted by the red-and-gold brigade but Colaco won’t be allowed to coach in the Indian Super League, which was one of the conditions that the former India coach had put forward earlier.

His presence has seen the arrival of Nigerian goal machine Ranti Martins and East Bengal are hopeful that the winning combination of Ranti and Colaco will finally land the club’s first-ever I-League crown next season.
