Former East Bengal youth team goalkeeper Ayush Das drowned to death at the Rabindra Sarovar Lake, Kolkata today.

15-year-old Ayush played a practice match for his school BD Memorial today morning and then went to freshen up with three others at the lake but he was the only one who didn’t know how to swim. It was learnt that the three others came out safely but Ayush tragically drowned to death and it still remains unknown how he was allowed to get down into the lake despite not knowing how to swim.

Ayush played two years for the East Bengal junior team and represented them in the India leg of the Nike Manchester United Premier Cup. Last year he played for the Aryan junior team in the IFA nursery league but this year he wasn’t playing anywhere as he had his class 10 board exams.

His former coach Monojit Das told Sportskeeda, “It is a very unfortunate incident. He was a very talented lad with a bright future. He also represented Bengal in the U-14 nationals and was close to the India youth team as well.”
