Goa Pro League: Churchill Bros register 3-1 over Wilfred Leisure!

The Red Machines got the better of promoted Wilfred Leisure SC with a 3-1 victory in a Round 8 match of the Goa Pro League 2012/13 held at Nehru Stadium, Margao. With this victory, Churchill Brothers Goa remain fourth with 16 points from 8 matches, while Wilred Leisure remain seventh with eight points from nine matches. Gabonese striker Henri Antchouet with a brace and Akram Moghrabi from Lebanon were on target for the Red Machines in the first session while Melwyn Fernandes got the consolation goal for Wilfred Leisure SC after the break.

As is usual in the Goa Pro League for the I-League sides, Churchill Brothers fielded a young team. Henri scored his first goal in the 4th minute, when he managed to get on to a peach of a cross from young Alesh Sawant from the left and slot it past the goalkeeper Macklas Moraes. Henri got on the score sheet once again in the 11th minute, after Alesh Sawant’s shot was well saved by the keeper Macklas Moraes only for Henri Antchouet to latch on to the rebound and back heel the ball into an empty net.

Akram Moghrabi then completed the Churchill scoring, after Satish Singh’s brilliant overlap from the right saw the right back pass it to an unmarked Akram, who made no mistake it putting the ball past the goalkeeper. The teams went into the break with Churchill Brothers Goa leading 3-0.

Within a minute of the restart, Wilfred Leisure reduced the margin, when Melwyn Fernandes’ cracker of a right footer from 20 yards out whizzed past the Churchill goalkeeper Felix D’Souza into the net. Wilfred Leisure did try to get back into the match, however the Churchill defense held firm and the match ended 3-1 for the Red Machines.
