The Goa Super League continued with Salgaocar FC trashing Churchill Brothers SC 4-1 at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Saturday afternoon. Hero of the day was Salgaocar’s French striker Claude Gnakpa, who scored all four goals.

Salgaocar FC carried forward their impressive I-League form in which they are currently league leaders, while Churchill Brothers’ I-League woes carried over to the Goa Pro League, which until the end of the first-leg they had been leading with 23 points from nine matches, but after today’s first loss they lost the top spot to Sporting Clube de Goa, while Salgaocar moved to 18 points from 10 matches.

Salgaocar had a perfect start as misunderstanding between keeper Lalit Thapa and defender Naveen Kumar was utilised by Claude Gnakpa in only the sixth minute with the Churchill Brothers duo again conceding a mistake for a goal to Claude Gnakpa in the 17th minute with the Frenchman finishing off his hattrick in the 37th minute.

The match was decided and Churchill Brothers couldn’t make any comeback this afternoon against Salgaocar FC with Claude Gnakpa adding a fourth in the 65th minute of a Milagres Gonsalves set-up. Churchill Brothers could only get a consolation goal in injury-time with substitute Saran Thangjam Singh scoring off a penalty after Jaison Vales had been brought down in the box.

Salgaocar FC won the match 4-1 against their Goan rivals to seal a memorable victory.
