I-League side Sporting Clube de Goa will look to close the gap at the top when they take on Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the Goa Pro League organised by the Goa Football Association at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Monday afternoon.

Sporting Goa is currently second in the table with 16 points from seven games, four points behind league leaders Churchill Brothers SC who have played a game extra. Cavelossim has currently 9 points from eight matches.

The Flaming Oranje has overcome strong top five contenders in Salgaocar FC, Laxmi Prasad SC and Dempo SC recently, taking 9 points from their last three games. The preparations for the upcoming fixture are going according to plan and Coach Oscar Bruzon is targeting full points.

“We will be looking for two wins from our final two matches of the league, in order to finish the first stage on a high. My players have shown their technical prowess and I am sure they will continue to concentrate and possess mental toughness,” remarked Oscar.

Sporting Goa has three players doubtful for the tie, which include midfielder Rowllin Borges (foot) besides defenders Rojen Singh (head) and Joseph Clemente (ankle).

When the teams met last season at Poriat ground, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. This will be Cavelossim’s final match of the first-leg of the Goa Pro League.
