I-League 2017/18: Aizawl FC vs East Bengal FC, Preview

East Bengal are second in the I-League table

Defending champions Aizawl FC will host East Bengal FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl on Tuesday. Both the teams met each other on November 28, 2017 at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata where Aizawl FC made a quick come back at the end of the game to draw the match at 2-2. East Bengal must be aware of their mistakes before facing the home team.

East Bengal FC

Kolkata giants East Bengal are in the second position on the table with 18 points from nine games and they have scored 17 goals so far in the competition. Katsumi Yusa is in the race of highest goal scorer award with five goals and he is a key player for the team.

Minerva Punjab is ahead of East Bengal by four points which definitely must be putting an added pressure on the Red and Gold brigade. East Bengal will meet arch-rivals Mohun Bagan on January 21, 2018 and they must be aiming for a win in order to stay motivated and keep themselves close to the league leaders.

Players to watch out for

Al Amna and Katsumi Yusa both have won the I-league title with different teams. They will be marshalling East Bengal's midfield. Laldanmawia Ralte, who will be facing his former club, has scored three goals in the competition and he will be an important player for East Bengal. Jobby Justin will be looking to add to his tally after scoring his first goal in East Bengal's last match against Churchill Brothers.

Aizawl FC

Aizawl FC defeated Chennai City FC in their last home game, and they are sitting in the sixth position of the table with 13 points from seven games. Aizawl have scored nine goals and conceded six so far in the competition. They played two games less than the league leaders so they must be looking for six points in their next two games. Aizawl FC will meet Neroca FC in their next home game which will be not an easy fixture as Neroca FC is in the third position on the table.

Players to watch out for

Yugo Kobayashi has three goals to his name, and he is a key player for Aizawl FC. David Lalrinmuana who played for East Bengal last season, has also scored a goal in their last match. The Romanian midfielder Andrei Ionescu has scored two goals so far in the competition.

Matchday

East Bengal gaffer Khalid Jamil is going to face his former club and he is familiar with the environment. An entertaining clash is waiting on Tuesday at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium from 2:00 pm onwards.
