What's the story?

Former Mohun Bagan striker Ansumah Kromah could be set to join fierce city rivals Kingfisher East Bengal after undergoing trials at the Kolkata club.

In case you didn't know...

Ansumana Kromah is a 25-year old Liberian striker who played for Churchill Brothers SC last season in the I-League. He signed for Mohun Bagan in June 2017 but was released mid-season after poor performances so far this season.

The heart of the matter

Ansumana Kromah was released by Mohun Bagan on 11th January 2017 after a 2-1 loss to Minerva Punjab FC at their home ground. Kromah had missed a penalty kick in this match and the club officials decided to part ways with the striker after they mutually agreed to the termination of his contract.

After his release, Kromah looks all set to move to perennial rivals East Bengal and attended a trial for the Red & Golds. An East Bengal official told Sportskeeda, "Yes, Kromah was at the trial, but we are yet to take the final decision on his signing."

Khalid Jamil's East Bengal are currently placed third in the I-League standings and the addition of Kromah to the strikeforce could be a good boost to their title hopes.

What's next?

The signing of Ansumana Kromah could be announced soon by the East Bengal management as we await further details from the Kolkata club.

Author's take

East Bengal has been experimenting in their attack with the misfiring Willis Plaza and Joby Justin being rotated by Khalid Jamil. East Bengal has also released Brazilian striker Charles De Souza a while back and the signing of Liberian Kromah, who had a great last season at Churchill Brothers SC could provide them a great option in the attacking department. This could trigger their title chances as the title race heats up in the I-league.
