The new year starts with a transfer window which excites football fans all over the world but there is a special excitement for an Indian football fan as well as fans of the Kolkata city giants. The new year starts with a derby knocking at the door and the anxiety increases with each passing day.

Let us have a look at the I-League 2017 matches of the Kolkata giants in January:

#1 East Bengal start the year with a win

East Bengal had a confident-boosting start to 2018

The first I-League match of 2018 was played at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi, where the Indian Arrows took on East Bengal. The youngsters looked confident at the beginning of the game, but lost the plot when the away team started putting pressure.

Al Amna scored the first goal with a free kick and Katsumi Yusa doubled the lead before half-time. There was a beautiful display of skills and passes from both the teams in the midfield but it was East Bengal who bagged three points at the end of the game.

It was a positive start for the team in the new year with a clean sheet and it will definitely give confidence to the team as well as fans.

#2 Mohun Bagan make a sloppy start

Disastrous start to 2018 for Mohun Bagan

Mohun Bagan made a disastrous start to the new year as they suffered a defeat against ten-man Chennai City FC at the Mohun Bagan ground by conceding two goals. Mohun Bagan equalised in 36 minutes after Chennai City FC took the lead in 6 minutes.

A goal at the end of the game in 71 minutes not only took away three points from Mohun Bagan, but they are also now seven points behind rivals East Bengal. A series of a draw and now a loss definitely putting pressure on the team for the upcoming matches.

#3 All eyes on upcoming I-League Derby

The Kolkata giants will meet each other on January 21, 2018. The Kolkata derby can give a clear picture about the title race and provide oxygen to the winning team. East Bengal suffered a defeat in the first away derby match against Mohun Bagan on December 3, 2017. Both the teams know each other well now and football fans are going to witness an entertaining match in the month of January.
