I-League - Round 12: Three weekend matches deferred

This weekend will see Round 12 of the 2012/13 I-League being played across the country, but only four out of the seven matches will be taking place then. The match involving Mohun Bagan was deferred as were the two matches in Goa due to non-availability of grounds. The AIFF is still to come to a final verdict in the abandoned East Bengal Club vs Mohun Bagan match on December 9. Until that decision is out, none of Mohun Bagan’s matches are being played, meaning this weekend’s Mohun Bagan vs United Sikkim match has been deferred indefinitely as was last weekend’s game against the Pailan Arrows.

Meanwhile in Goa, the Nehru Stadium in Margao is finally closed down for redevelopment work ahead of the Lusofonia Games next year, but the alternative venue in Vasco’s Tilak Maidan will not be ready before late-January 2013. Until then, the reopened Duler Ground in Mapusa, with its new artificial turf is set to host matches in Goa. However, more work needs to be done at the Duler ground and with no alternative venue available, this weekend’s matches – Salgaocar SC vs Sporting Clube de Goa and Churchill Brothers SC vs Air India – had to be postponed.
