On Thursday, Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC confirmed the signing of Spanish striker Daniel Lucas Segovia for the remainder of the 2017-18 season. The 32-year-old has been signed on as a replacement for the injured forward Braulio Nobrega.

The club announced the signing on their official Twitter handle earlier today.

Segovia, who looked comfortable in his first training session with the club said in a press release, “I am very happy to be part of the Bengaluru family. They are a big club with amazing fans and I am here to try and help the team achieve their goals. It’s a big step for me in my career as it’s my first club in Asia, but at the same time I have heard a lot of good things about BFC and that persuaded me to make the move.”

With the club set to embark on a busy period of fixtures, Bengaluru FC Coach Albert Roca admitted that with Braulio Nobrega out for the season, they needed a striker to provide cover for Miku. He said, “With Braulio out for the rest of the season, we needed a striker. Segovia is experienced and fits into that role, so we are very happy to have him. I wish him the best and hope that he will help us achieve our objectives this season.”

Segovia started off his football career at Rayo Vallecano where he made his professional debut in the Segunda Division back in 2004/05. However, he failed to climb up the ranks there and was released by the club in 2006.

He then played at a host of clubs, including, Algeciras CF, Real Zaragoza ‘B’, Atlético Pinto, UB Conquense and Austrian club St. Pölten, where he enjoyed two stints. He had also played in the Europa League qualifiers with Austrian club SKN St Polten.

His most productive stint came at St. Pölten where he scored 29 goals in 48 appearances in is first stint and 33 goals in 82 matches in his second. Most recently, he was playing at Neftçi PFK in the Azerbaijan Premier League.
