Come tonight, Bengaluru FC will take on Chennaiyin FC as the former will be attempting to win their first-ever ISL title in their own backyard. The Albert Roca-coached team secured a place in the final by beating Pune City FC while Chennaiyin overcame FC Goa in their respective semi-final clash. The southern Indian encounter will witness a gruelling battle in a bid to establish the final dominion, in what promises to be a high-octane clash.
The Blues have won a trophy every season since their inception four years ago and are aiming to make it five in five by winning their maiden ISL title in their debut season. The two-time I-League and two-time Federation Cup champions have proved their mettle in the glitzy ISL too and have one final hurdle to cross before being declared the best in Indian football.
However, despite being in sublime form, the odds are stacked against the table toppers. No teams who have topped the league standings have won the title. Another trend that Bengaluru needs to break is to become the first team to win the final they host. Goa and Kerala Blasters ended up on the losing side when they hosted the ISL final in 2015 and 2016.
On the other hand, the 2015 edition winners will be looking take on the odds and repeat their success.
