ISL 2017/18, Match 53: Jamshedpur FC vs Delhi Dynamos, 5 Talking Points

Jamshe
Jamshedpur lacked discipline in the opening stages

Jamshedpur FC rose from the dead to secure a thrilling 3-2 win over Delhi Dynamos in Sunday's ISL match up. The home side were trailing by two goals before they eventually found their footing to bag a vital win.

Tonight's result takes them to 5th in the points table. They now have 16 points from 11 games. Here are the major talking points from tonight's open-ended match.

#1 Jamshedpur were surprisingly careless in possession

For a side known to be disciplined in possession, the home side were far too lax in the first half. The usually dependable figures - Souvik Chakrabarti, Memo and Bikash Jairu all gave away the ball far too easily, despite the fact that they were not pressed by Delhi's players.

The outcome of this was Delhi dominated proceedings and dictated play. With 64% possession in the first half, the visitors looked a rejuvenated outfit who were fully intent on disrupting the points table.

Steve Coppell's men were pedestrian and Delhi took full advantage of this situation. Thing's just didn't go as planned for Jamshedpur during the initial stages. They were treated to a blitzkrieg from the visitors. The men in red were made to dig deep.

#2 Two quickfire goals from Kalu Uche made for exciting start

Delhi Dynamos were playing like a side that had nothing to lose. The pressure was well and truly on Jamshedpur, who are in pursuit of a top 4 spot. They looked cagey and nervous when they were expected to be confident and dominant.

It was Delhi's dominance which eventually bore fruit. Foreign recruit, Kalu Uche scored two quickfire headers in the first half to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead much to the shock of the home crowd who were silenced.

Nandhakumar Sekar assisted on both occasions. From the left wing, he played two inch-perfect passes for Uche who did extremely well to bury his chances. Kalu peeled away from his marker inside the box twice and punished Jamshedpur's centre-backs, who were caught ball watching.

#3 A game far too open for Steve Coppell's liking

One could sense, Coppell was not a happy man

This season, ISL debutants, Jamshedpur have quickly earned themselves the reputation for being miserly in defence. However, none of that was visible tonight. Post Delhi's two lighting fast goals, the home side did pull one back, courtesy, captain Tiri's well-taken header.

However one could sense that Steve Coppell was not a happy man. The game was far too open for his liking. Both sides were playing end to end football from the start of the match. It was a helter-skelter dash towards goal from both teams.

While Delhi played with freedom, Jamshedpur were forced to attack given the stretched and open nature of the game. Coppell's side usually love to slow down the pace. Tonight, they rarely got the opportunity to do so. Whether they liked it or not, Jamshedpur were coerced into playing attacking football, something we've rarely seen them do this season.

#4 Did Yumnam Raju score the goal of the season?

Jamshedpur came out of the tunnel in the second half knowing very well, they needed at-least a goal to ensure they are still in the reckoning for a playoff spot. The home side displayed a lot more urgency after going two goals down

Trailing by one after Tiri's header, Yumnam Raju who was only playing his second match of the season, scored an absolute screamer to level the scoreline. His sweet side-footed effort from just outside the box nestled right into the top right corner.

No goalkeeper on the planet could have got his hands on that shot. The resulting lose ball from the corner kick fell kindly to him and he took his shot first time. The ball had swerve, pace, and accuracy. Tonight, Yumnam possibly scored, the best goal of ISL season 4.

#5 Two down, Jamshedpur send across a strong message to their rivals

Tonight, Jamshedpur possibly bagged their three most important points of the season. Two zero down, it looked like an upset was on the cards. However, Steve Coppell's men showed why they are among the most solid sides in the ISL

Substitute, Trindade Goncalves scored Jamshedpur's all-important third goal in the 86th minute much to everyone's surprise. Wellington's clever pass found Trindade inside the box. The forward did extremely well to coolly slot home from an acute angle.

Tonight was all about determination and the home side never put their heads down despite the poor start. As for Delhi, they proved exactly why they are at the bottom of the points table. Confidence turned into carelessness and this loss will sting them for a long time.
