Macpherlin Dudu Omagbemi signs for Mohun Bagan

Dudu will play for the I-League Champions this season

I-League Champions Mohun Bagan have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Macpherlin Dudu Omagbemi for the 2016 I-League season. The 30-year-old striker played for East Bengal in the previous season of I-League.

The Nigerian started his career in India in 2001 when he joined Sporting Clube de Goa as a teenager. He represented the Goan side on 89 occasions and found the back of the net 73 times. During this period, Dudu was also loaned out on 3 different occasions, twice in 2002 and once in the 2005 season, initially to Dempo and Salgaocar and later to Malaysian club Penang.

Known as a prolific goal scorer, he scored goals in every club he played for and even went on to become the I-League’s top scorer representing Sporting Club in 2004-05 season.

He signed for Polish club Wis?a Kraków for the 2007-2008 season where he made 9 appearances scoring just 1 goal in the process. Over the next few years, Dudu played for many clubs across Europe including Finnish Premier League side KuPS.

He returned to India with Salgaocar in January 2014 and continued his goal scoring exploits helping the club to a mid-table finish. Next year he signed a contract with Kolkata giants East Bengal on a 1-year deal. He also played in the inaugural edition of Indian Super League (ISL) scoring a quarter of the team’s goals.

Earlier this year, Rasaq Bello signed for East Bengal after a 1-year stint with arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the 2014-15 season that ended with the defender scoring the goal that won the Mariners their maiden I-League title. The centre-back criticised his former team for mismanagement of the players after deciding to sign to play for the Red and Gold Army.
