Reports: Atletico de Kolkata complete signing of Valdo, according to Atletico Madrid

Valdo is on his way to defending ISL champions Atletico de Kolkata

In something which doesn't often happen in international football, Spanish La Liga side Atlético de Madrid announced for its sister club, Atlético de Kolkata, the signing of Spanish-born Cape Verdean footballer Valmiro 'Valdo' Lopes Rocha, but the transfer hasn't been confirmed by the Indian Super League champions yet.

34-year-old Villablino-born Valmiro Lopes Rocha, better known as Valdo, started off his youth career with CF Pozuelo de Alarcón in Madrid. His talent was seen by Real Madrid, who signed him for their 'B' team in 2001 and he was a regular for their 'B' team but only played one match for the first team. He moved to CA Osasuna first on loan and then spend four successful years at the La Liga club before playing for Espanyol Barcelona, Málaga CF and UD Levante in Spain.

Valdo thereafter left Spain for the first time to join Mexican side CF Atlante, but returned after six months on loan to UD Levante before joining Greek Superleague side Asteras Tripolis FC but again after six months he returned to Spain to join Racing Santander. Now he is set to move to India.

Atletico de Kolkata open their ISL - Season 2 campaign on the opening day, October 3 at Chennaiyin FC.
