TAL Season 3 (Division 1): Gameweek 9 Review

Abhay Raj’s goal against Horizons has made Parikrma the strong favorites for the title which they can even wrap up in GW10

Horizons faltered in an important stage of the season, unable to overcome Flipkart, which means Parikrma can wrap up the title in GW 10. Kougen Kikou picked up an important win in their bid to survive and this coupled with Gremio’s loss means they move out of the relegation spots. Yataghan beat Samba to heap more misery on their opponents while Project 7 beat Mercurial FC rather comfortably.

The fight for third

Yataghan Internazionale picked up a slim 1-0 win over Samba FC with Jay Singadia scoring the only goal of the game. Long-term member James Waters made a return to the lineup albeit in goal and ended up with a clean sheet.

Samba FC needed the points the steer their way to safety but now find themselves in heat of the things with only 2 games to go. Yataghan dominated the game and deservedly picked up all three points. They currently sit in fifth spot but are in a tight race for a top three finish.

Score: Yataghan Internazionale (1) – (0) Samba FC

Kougen Kikou continue revival

Captain Yasuhiro Nishino was at the helm of things as FC Kougen Kikou picked up all three points and moved up to 8th in the table. Mavericks FC couldn’t bring it together when it really mattered and with only 2 games they will have not only pick up maximum points but will also have to hope other teams around them lose.

Hiroshi Ito and Hiroki Akiyama had good performances for FCKK and they need to replicate their performances over the past two weeks if they are to play another season in the top flight.

Score: FC Kougen Kikou (1) – (0) Mavericks FC

Project back on track

Project 7 picked up a routine win against Mercurial FC when they beat them 2-0. Mercurial had picked up 4 points in their last two games but could not stop a Project 7 side looking at their best.

The backline was solid with Nishal Naidu and Nash Juckes having a great sense of composure while Rahul Dewan and Sandeep Kudva ensured their possession didn’t go to waste. Mercurial now look to be headed for relegation unless they win both their games and hope the opponents around them lose.

Mercurial FC (0) – (2) Project 7

Gremio’s slide into oblivion

Gremio FC really needed a win to get out of the relegation spots but could not hold onto to a lead when they lost 2-1 to Rare Dare FC. Gremio have had an extremely disappointing season so far, having won just two games out of nine.

Rare Dare followed up an impressive draw against Supernova in GW 8 with three points against Gremio and are safe from relegation, having picked up 10 points in their past 4 games. Bhargav R had a good game in midfield and the winger managed to grab a goal as well.

Score: Rare Dare FC (2) – (1) Gremio FC

Intense 0-0

League leaders Parikrma and Supernova FC played out a high intensity goalless draw. Parikrma could not break open the watertight Supernova defence and were restricted to long range efforts. Supernova’s goalkeepers Tejas M put in a man of the match performance with the gloves, making some brilliant saves to ensure his side secured a draw at the least. Adrian Silvester and Abdulla Bibin were also extremely disciplined in defence and managed to keep the usually highflying Parikrma at bay.

Ravi Babu had several long-range shots while top scorer Chiranjeevi M could not find any space in the opposition box. Although Parikrma dropped points, they can still grab the title a week early if they beat their opponents in GW 10.

Score: Parikrma (0) – (0) Supernova FC

Horizons falter at crucial time

Flipkart FC picked up a massive win over Horizons FC and might have even brought a premature end to the title race with the latter now 4 points behind Parikrma with only 2 games to go. Abhay Raj and Pavan Powar connected well to hit Horizons on the counter and the solitary goal was enough to give Flipkart all three points, boosting their late push for third place.

Season 1 winners Horizons could not take advantage of Parikrma dropping points earlier in the day and will be kicking themselves for failing to grab the opportunity. Flipkart have strung together some good results after a slow start and now find themselves in a familiar position in the upper half of the table.

Score: Flipkart FC (1) – (0) Horizons FC
