TAL Season 3 (Division 2): Gameweek 8 Review

The FC Sparta team look a delighted bunch after their hard-earned victory over favourites Al-Fateh

The Upset

FCB Sparta overcame a two-goal deficit to turn things around and pick up all three points against league leaders Al-Fateh. The seven-goal thriller ended 4-3 in favour of Sparta who now get back into the title race while also doing a HUGE favour to the rest of title challengers.

Al-Fateh hadn’t lost a game before this one and looked on their way on to another emphatic win when they took a two-goal lead early in the game but inspired performances from Lalit Braganza and Praveen Murali saw them turn the tie upside down.

Zaib Sherief and Nihal Colaco got on the score sheet but were largely ineffective in the second half owing to an effective Sparta defence whose positioning sense has been outstanding all season.

Score: FCB Sparta 4-3 Al-Fateh

Brunton pick up bragging rights

FC Brunton got back into the mix for a promotion spot with a win over local rivals FC Lawless. New signing Ishan Nair made the difference for Brunton on both ends of the pitch grabbing the opening goal as well as making some important challenges in his own box.

Lawless have steadily improved over the season but still need to find that finesse in the final third if they are to pick up points. For Brunton, this result takes them to seventh place in the table, giving them an outside chance at promotion.

Score: FC Brunton 2-1 FC Lawless

Athlos jump into the top three

Athlos United picked up all three points against Grasshoppers FC thanks to a brace from speedy winger Sabarish Kannan. Athlos now move into third place and currently hold their fate in their own hands (legs).

Grasshoppers need a dire change in strategy if they are to get out of the rut they are in starting with a plan in the final third. Athlos United kept a clean sheet for a second consecutive game led by the charismatic Mohammed Arshaque while Arun Thomas has been a force to reckon with in midfield.

Score: Athlos United 2-0 Grasshoppers FC

Saheed strikes again

Saheed Adeoye added to his burgeoning goal tally scoring four against a hapless FC Kudlu defence. FC Bengal are currently two points off the leaders Al-Fateh and with the latter having to play Diablos and Athlos in the final two games, Bengal have a great chance at winning the title as long as they win their remaining games.

Kudlu haven’t recovered after their losing their striking duo of Akin and Nikutten but with only three games to go, they will need to re-strategise in order to pick up points.

Score: FC Bengal 4-1 FC Kudlu

Diablos back on track

Diablos FC picked up a comfortable win against Netbsuters FC, thanks to a brace from Sairam Ramesh. Tushar Das and Chirag Patel also put in good performances to ensure all three points for their team.

Diablos find themselves just outside the promotion spots but with some new additions, along with the return of Tony Lobo should see them finish the season strongly. Netbusters find themselves winless and at the bottom of the table but with only four points separating them from 9th placed Grasshoppers, they still have time to move up the table.

Score: Diablos FC 3-1 Netbsuters FC

Goals dry up for Titans

Titans FC played out another goalless draw, this time against Joras to fall off the charts and end up in 6th place. Although only a point off third place, Titans now find their destiny out of their own hands and are banking on other teams to drop points.

Joras have been a vastly improved team over the past few weeks and deserved a draw in this game. What looked like a team that was destined for a 11th or 12th place finish has picked up the pieces and looks set for a mid-table finish.

Score: Titans FC 0-0 Joras
