What is the lore behind Rufus in Fortnite?

Rufus can be best described as a humanoid raccoon. There's not much known about his origins, but it would seem that Epic Games could have taken some inspiration from Biomutant or perhaps Rocket Raccoon from Guardians Of The Galaxy. Staying true to character, Rufus wears a trash can lid as a hat of sorts. This is likely to add humor and contextual reference to raccoons that often dumpster dive for food.

Another fun fact about Rufus, is that he shares the name of the island associated with Fortnite Reload. This likely has no connection to the character, but it is intriguing. His official in-game description reads, "Trash it." This also adds context to the trash can lid he wears. However, the character can also remove it if you so choose.
