What is the lore behind Ascendant Midas in Fortnite?

Ascendant Midas might be a snapshot/variant of Midas in the grand scheme of things. However, it would be more accurate to state that he is Midas himself who has ascended from The Underworld. Although he did not play much of a role in Chapter 5 Season 2, having him back in the storyline could lead to major developments in future seasons. Another interesting thing to note is that his official in-game description is in first-person. It reads, “In the myths they tell of me, they never quite get the details right.”

This is quite unique as only a handful of characters have ever introduced themself in-game. The most recent has been Deadpool (Pen & Ink). His official in-game description reads, “I'm pretty sure I'm already in this game. Where's Midas?” This is a direct reference to when Deadpool took over Midas’ yacht in Chapter 2 Season 3. That said, it would be interesting to see both of these characters face-off in-game.

Ascendant Midas is part of the Golden King Set. It includes numerous cosmetic items, such as: Ascendant Midas (Outfit + Selectable Styles + Reactive), Ascendant Midas (LEGO Outfit), Golden King's Cape (Back Bling + Selectable Styles + Reactive), The Golden Touch (Pickaxe + Selectable Styles), and Golden King Bundle.

Should you buy Ascendant Midas in Fortnite? Ascendant Midas is the newest version of the character to grace the storyline. If you are a longtime fan of Midas or have been around since the start of Chapter 2, then Ascendant Midas belongs in your in-game locker. Much like the original version of the character, he, too, has the “Golden Touch” ability. 

It would seem that his time spent in The Underworld has only made him stronger and more resilient. Perhaps this time around, he will not be eaten by a Loot Shark. That said, Ascendant Midas can also be used while exploring new LEGO Fortnite seeds. You can rally your crew and all play together as different versions of the character or perhaps even cosplay as The First Shadows: Sierra, The Burning Wolf, and Chaos Origins.
