5 things that 2K got absolutely wrong in WWE 2K17

Like every other game, WWE 2K17 has its own share of flaws

WWE 2K17 has been on the racks since October last year. Ever since its release, fans have flocked in the stores to get their hands on it. Unsurprisingly, it is one of the best-selling video games in the market at the moment and fans cannot wait for the next instalment.

However, like any other game, 2K17 is not perfect.

It has its own share of flaws that has the fans complaining and whining. But despite these flaws, the popularity of the game has never taken the fall. In fact, over time the fans accept these flaws and get used to them.

But with the competition being stiff, 2K needs to pull up its game and sort out some of the gawking mistakes. Five of the most outrageous mistakes have been listed, as follows.

#5 Voice-acting (or the lack of it)

Reduced to a shell of her real-life self

The WWE games have always been authentic on one front at least. Although it was never the most convincing or best-acted, the mere presence of voice-acting added that undeniable layer of authenticity.

Alas, the same could not be said about WWE 2K17. In fact, the voiceovers have been removed completely from the game (if you discount the few scattered monologues that Triple H, Paul Heyman and the other non-wrestling characters have in the “My Career” mode).

What is most striking is the omission of Renee Young. Young is known for interviewing wrestlers backstage. But in the game, she is reduced to a voiceless character like the rest of the roster.

The incredibly off-putting text scrawls do not do much justice to the game, either.

#4 Graphics

The Rock’s face is just plain weird

WWE games have never been popular for the graphics.

In fact, inconsistencies in this department have been a trend ever since the first game came out. Over the years, however, with new technology, one would have expected a little more attention being paid to detail, but that has not been the case.

In WWE 2K17, the same problem persists with some of the visuals turning out to be hilariously erratic. The likes of The Rock, Dolph Ziggler and Alexa Bliss have characters that look borderline creepy and nothing like their real-life selves.

On the other hand, others like John Cena, AJ Styles and Randy Orton look absolutely fantastic. The level of inconsistency is shocking.

Moreover, when you see what 2K Sports have done with its other ventures, you would expect a better output in WWE as well.

#3 Bugs and glitches

Glitches like these have ruined the gameplay

The abundance of bugs and glitches in WWE 2K17 is possibly one of the biggest issues of the game. Yes, the avid followers of the series are accustomed to the array of absurd and frustrating physics-defying bugs. For the new gamers, well, they just have to get used to it.

We have already encountered several bugs in the game like random teleportation of wrestlers from one end of the ring to the other, the entrance music continuing to play in the menu, Naomi being possessed, so much more!

It is evident that the employees down at 2K Sports barely even play-tested the game.

It is ludicrous that a game, as popular as this one, was released in such an unfinished state. Even the release of the subsequent patches have not been of much help and 2K surely needs to sort this out.

#2 Unjustified overall ratings

Vince McMahon has been grossly overrated in the game

Video games based on real-life sports like NBA, FIFA and WWE have always been subject to criticism by the fans regarding ridiculous ratings being given to the players. WWE 2K17 is no different with several of the Superstars earning unjustified ratings.

While some have been grossly overrated, others have been criminally underrated in the game.

The fact that Kevin Nash is rated higher than the likes of Kevin Owens, Finn Balor and Randy Orton does not do any justice to the wrestlers’ real-life abilities. The likes of Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and JBL have all been overrated in the game.

Also, with so many wrestlers like AJ Styles, Asuka and others being underrated, there is no logic as to how exactly the developers rated the Superstars. This is one area that 2K needs put more emphasis on next time around.

#1 Commentary

Atrocious in the game, and otherwise

Commentary has always been bad in the WWE games, regardless of who the developer is. None of the developers have been able to pair the fluid in-ring action with suitable commentary and even 2K Sports has failed in this department.

The announcers, with their monotone, lifeless voices sound like they are reading scripted stories off of misplaced soundbites. There is a host of problems with the commentary – it is repetitive and most of the times it does not go with what is going on in the ring.

Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole and JBL are all as atrocious as it gets. They are always delivering the same clichés over and over. It is high time that a little more effort is put into the commentary which would thereby amplify the game’s realism.
