New subscription program coming to PlayStation Now service

Sony has announced that they will soon be offering a new subscription plan for the PlayStation Now. The streaming service allows players to rent PS3 games on their PS4, but the service has not been very successful due to the exorbitant prices for streaming individual games. Hopefully this new subscription plan will change things.

The plan is slated to launch on January 13th for the PS4 in US and Canada. Sony has stated that the plan will be coming to other platforms sometime later.

Players can choose between a monthly subscription plan for $19.99 per month or a three-month package of $49.99 which comes up to about $15 a month. Sony will also be offering a free 7-day trial at launch so PlayStation 4 owners can try out the service. The trial will provide access to all the games in the subscription service so there will be plenty to choose from.

SCEA Senior Vice President Phil Rosenberg stated the following in a recent press release:

“Users have been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months, and one of the top requests we get is for an overall subscription to the service. We’re excited to formally announce it today, as the PlayStation Now subscription service will deliver a ton of value by providing instant access to a large and diverse catalogue of games for one low price.”

The subscription plan falls much cheaper than renting a game

So this is great news for PlayStation 4 owners who have never owned a PS3 or just want to try out some of the older games. And the subscription plan is definitely more reasonable than paying $12 a week for renting a single game. This should also go well with the new Samsung Smart TV’s which will include the PlayStation Now service. Check out the full list of games being offered on PlayStation Now here.
