The PlayStation Network is now back online after being down for an extended period of time on Sunday. The Network faced an extended outage on the same day as Super Bowl XLIX, but now the support site has confirmed that the network’s status is online. Sony announced on Twitter that they were working on getting the service restored.
It is still unclear why the Network went down again on Sunday, though it is unlikely to be due to maintenance as Sony informs players about this well before the actual maintenance date. Most PSN users are suspecting that the outage was likely due to another DDOS attack, with many users taking to Twitter and Reddit to voice their opinions on the issue. Thankfully, the service has now been restored and players can get back to their games.
The Network has been subject to countless DDOS attacks in the past few months, with the notorious Lizard Squad claiming to have caused these attacks. The service also faced its longest outage during Christmas, and Sony has compensated its users by offering discounts on several of its PlayStation Store items during the extended downtime.
At least US users had the Super Bowl XLIX event to focus on while the service was out. But if this was another attack, it’s likely to occur again unless Sony does something about it.
