Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan AC today finalised and signed a one year contract with Indian international striker Sunil Chhetri. The contract was signed by the clubs Finance Secretary Debashis Datta and Sunil Chhetri in presence of his agent Yogesh Joshee at the Hilton hotel in Al Ain City, where India will be playing the UAE tomorrow in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

“Sunil Chettri signed a one-year contract with Mohun Bagan at the team hotel in UAE. He is looking forward to a great season ahead with the team,” the club stated through a release.

Sunil Chhetri will be presented to the public a day after India return-leg against the UAE on July 29, which happens to be Mohun Bagan’s day of centenary celebrations of the club’s historic win against the East Yorkshire Regiment in the 1911 IFA Shield.

Last season Sunil Chhetri had played for Chirag United SC, now signing for Mohun Bagan marks a return to the club where he started his journey on the big stage in 2002. Though he still has ambitions to play abroad the offer that Mohun Bagan made was too good to turn down for Chhetri.

With the signing of Sunil Chhetri, Mohun Bagan have a formidable attack after bringing in Nigerian Odafe Onyeka Okolie from Churchill Brothers SC and having talismanic Brazilian Jose Ramirez Barreto. The pressure on the trio to perform and deliver will be huge.

July 22 was a big day for Chhetri then before signing for Mohun Bagan, he was recommended an for Arjuna Award.
