On 4th April 2018, Cricket South Africa confirmed that the rainbow nation would be touring Sri Lanka for a two test matches, series.
The series was originally supposed to have three test matches but Sri Lanka Cricket asked for one of these to be replaced for an extended limited overs series that is more commercially viable.
The first test of the series will be played in Galle from 12-16 July. The second test match is scheduled to be held at Colombo from 20-24 July.
The test series is followed by five ODIs, with the first ODI starting in Dambulla on 29th July. The opening two ODIs are scheduled to be played at Dambulla on July 29 and August 1 respectively. After that, the series will shift to Pallekele and next two matches will be played at this venue on August 5 and August 8. The final match will be held at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 12.
The teams will also play a solitary T20 game at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on 14th August at R. Premadasa International Cricket stadium in Colombo and will begin at 7:00 P.M local time. The South African team has played four T20 internationals on the ground while facing defeat on three of them. The Sri Lankan team on the other hand has played eighteen times but managed to win in only three of them.
