The RBC Canadian Open featured a thrilling playoff to decide the winner, and it was ultimately won by Ryan Fox of New Zealand. He is not the only player to have done well at the event, though.
Plenty of others had good outings even if they came up short, some to the surprise of oddsmakers who didn't give them much of a chance before the tournament began.
RBC Canadian Open golfers who did better than expected
5) Matt McCarty

At +11000 on CBS Sports' initial odds list, Matt McCarty had very long odds of winning. Only 15 listed golfers, which is not comprehensive, as some of the field didn't get listed in the article, had worse odds than McCarty.
To the surprise of the golf world, McCarty starred over the weekend, shooting 16 under par and placing T4.
4) Matteo Manassero

Matteo Manassero did not have odds listed on the CBS Sports page before the tournament, which meant he had longer odds than Lee Hodges at +15000. Yet, he finished ahead of all but five players.
The Italian golfer was in contention for the win before fading a little bit towards the end, but he still shot -15 and placed T6, three strokes back of the lead.
3) Sam Burns

Sam Burns was +3300 to win, so it's not as if it's a total stunner that he was in a playoff for the win and nearly pulled it off. However, +3300 is not exactly short odds, especially when the favorite (Rory McIlroy) was +450 to open.
Burns is a good golfer, the 33rd ranked player in the world right now, but this was a surprising outcome.
2) Kevin Yu

Kevin Yu entered the Canadian Open as a major long shot. The golfer had +7500 odds to win, so he was not remotely among the favorites. He had worse odds than Davis Riley, Jake Knapp, Justin Rose, and Max Homa, all of whom ended looking up at Yu on the leaderboard when the fourth round ended.
1) Ryan Fox

No one outdid their odds better than Ryan Fox. He was +8000 to win the tournament, which meant he had the 37th-best odds of winning the RBC Canadian Open. Yet, he stood alone on Sunday evening (June 8) after a tense playoff, having captured his title and shocking oddsmakers and bettors everywhere
It was Fox's second win of the 2025 season, and ironically, they both needed playoffs to be decided. Fox also won the Myrtle Beach Classic.
