The 3M Open is one of the two events remaining before the FedExCup playoffs. Also, the PGA event is a pathway to the playoff series. If a golfer wins the 3M Open, he'll receive 500 FedEx points, which will help him go up on the FedExCup standings.
Now, five golfers outside the top 70 in the FedExCup standings are playing at the 3M Open to make their way into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Here's a look into the notables who have yet not qualified for the first FedExCup event and trying their luck at the 3M Open.
Five notable golfers outside the top 70 of the FedExCup, playing at the 3M Open
#1 Harry Hall
The golfer is 81st in the standings this year. Last year he stood at 88 after the Wyndham Championship and couldn't make it to the playoffs. With the 3M Open and the Wyndham Championship left before the FedEx Cup playoffs, the golfer has to make the most of it.
As far as his performances are concerned for the season, his last triumph was at the ISCO Championship and before that, he landed at T12 at the John Deere Classic.
#2 Lee Hodges
Last year, Lee Hodges won the 3M Open, which helped him to jump from number 74 on the FedEx list to number 33. This year, as Hodges stands at 72 on the FedEx list, he's looking forward to defending his 3M Open title.
#3 Joel Dahmen
Dahmen is 111st on the FedEx Cup list and the golfer had a subpar year on the PGA Tour. Throughout the year, he had only two top-20 finishes at the Players Championship and the RBC Canadian Open.
Apart from that, he missed his last two cuts and has to put in extra effort to bounce back at the next PGA events.
#4 Justin Lower
The golfer is 89th on the standings and is playing at the 3M Open (tee time- 5:50 pm ET). As far as his season’s performances are concerned, his best finishes were at the Mexico Open (T3) and Corales Puntacana Championship (T4).
Other notable performances were at the Houston Open of the Memorial Park Golf Course (T28), the CJ Cup of the TPC Craig Ranch (T24), the Rocket Mortgage Classic of the Detroit Golf Club (T25), and more.
#5 Sam Ryder
He's 116 on the standings and has confirmed for the 3M Open. Ryder's last performance was at the Barracuda Championship, where he finished at T38 after day 4.
These golfers will be competing for a projected purse of the 3M Open $8.3 million at the TPC Twin Cities from July 25 to July 28. Thus, it's to see who bags the winner's share and the 500 FedEx points.
