The 2024 Barracuda Championship is set to tee off on Thursday, July 16. The event, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, will take place at the Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California. The tournament will see a 156-player field compete for the $4,000,000 prize purse.
The Barracuda Championship is being played opposite of The Open Championship. Owing to this, the event misses out on some regular top names. Unlike the major championship at Royal Troon, the Cali event will have none of the top 50 Official World Golf Rankings listed players on the field.
Surprisingly, Keith Mitchell is the outright favorite to win the Barracuda Championship this weekend. The 32-year-old Scottish golfer comes into the competition with 20-1 odds, according to SportsLine. Coming off a missed cut at the Genesis Scottish Open, the PGA Tour regular will be eyeing a big comeback.
Mitchell is followed by Michael Thorbjornsen, who also missed the cut last weekend. However, the 22-year-old recorded a shared T2 finish at TPC Deere Run earlier this month. This makes him a hot property in Truckee. The PGA Tour rookie enters the competition with 22-1 odds. The young golfer was pushed up in the odds list after Erik van Rooyen pulled out of the competition.
Sam Stevens sits third on the odds list with 24-1 odds. Taylor Pendrith sits fourth with 25-1 odds. Having managed a T16 finish at the US Open, the Canadian will be looking for a strong performance this weekend. Patrick Rodgers follows him with 30-1 odds.
Kevin Yu (33-1), Mark Hubbard (33-1), Beau Hossler (33-1), Adam Svensson (33-1), Nick Dunlap (40-1), and Neal Shipley (40-1) are some other big names to watch this weekend. It is pertinent to note that the Barracuda Championship's reigning champion Akshay Bhatia will not return to defend his title.
