Jon Rahm has had a rocky start to The Masters 2023. On the first hole of the Augusta National Golf Course, he made a double bogey. But he quickly made seven birdies and finished with a 65 to tie for first place with Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka.

Rahm is the most favourable candidate to win the Masters in 2023. The Spaniard is yet to win the Augusta tournament, and has only won one major tournament in his career. He will be looking to win the traditional green jacket this Sunday, April 9.

1) Jon Rahm's opening-round performance

Jon Rahm started with a bogey in the first round of the Masters but soon bounced back in the tournament with a birdie on the second hole. The 28-year-old made birdies on the second, third and seventh holes. He sank an eagle on the eighth hole and then made four birdies in the last nine holes.

Rahm finished with a score of under 7 and topped the leaderboard after the opening round of The Masters.


2) Jon Rahm Masters odds

As per Sportsline, Jon Rahm secured one of the top three spots on the odds list with a score of 800. Scottie Scheffler topped the odds list with a score of 650 followed by Rory McIlroy with a score of 750. Rahm is one of the experts picked to win the Masters in 2023.


3) Jon Rahm's 2023 recap

Jon Rahm won three PGA Tour events earlier this year. He started the tournament with a victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and soon won The American Express. He finished in seventh position at the Farmers Insurance Open with a score of under 8.

Jon Rahm has impressed people with his amazing performances since the beginning of 2023. After the Insurance Open, he played at the WM Phoenix Open and finished in third place after scoring a deficit of 14.

Rahm won the third PGA Tour event of 2023 at the Genesis Invitational Open. He also competed at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and finished in the 39th position, but he withdrew from The Players Championship.


4) Jon Rahm is confident about winning the Masters

Jon Rahm was happy with his impressive performance in the opening round of the 2023 Masters. After the first round, he was confident of winning the tournament.

Rahm said:

"I'm mostly super happy with what I've done today, right. I didn't expect to hit a great 3-wood, a good second shot and four-putt the first hole, but to overcome that and shoot 9-under on the next 17 holes was something to be proud of. Hopefully I can just keep it going."

5) Jon Rahm's Masters performance

Jon Rahm turned pro in 2016 and has won 19 professional events in his career. He has won 10 PGA Tour events, nine European Tour events, and one major event.

Rahm gained entry to the Masters' tournament in 2017 after winning the Farmers Insurance Open. He finished in 27th place in his first Masters.

In 2021, Jon Rahm finished in the fifth position alongside Marc Leishman and he finished in the 27th position at the 2022 Masters.
