The Arizona Golf Course hosting the next LIV Golf event came under fire after they chopped cactus to build room for hospitality tents. The Arizona Department of Agriculture issued a letter of investigation as the news went viral. The property is owned by the Gallery Golf Club, which later claimed that it was a mistake by a landscaping company, Santa Rita Landscape.They revealed that the landscaping company did not take permission from management before the removal of the flora.Speaking about the incident, Heather Flowers, the assistant director of strategic initiatives and policy at the AZDA, said:"The AZDA did not identify records of a permit or notice of intent for The Gallery Golf Club to cut down the two saguaros, and we are currently conducting an investigation related to this action."However, the landscaping company explained that they were under the impression that they would probably be relocating but ended up cutting the cactus. Jeremy Duda, general manager of the Gallery Golf Club, released a statement about what the company said:"We were under the impression that they were going to be relocated. That’s what we were told, and they ended up chopping them down without our permission.”It is important to note that the offense is punishable under state law by a civil penalty of more than $5000 if found guilty.LIV Golf Arizona details explainedThe LIV Golf Arizona event will start on March 17 in Marana.
