During a recent episode of Dan on Golf, golf insider Dan Rapaport shared his honest opinions about the Xander Schauffele-Tiger Woods cut streak comparisons. He slammed the comparisons, pointing out that they don’t count as we’re now in an era of no-cut Signature Events.

Xander Schauffele won his maiden PGA Tour title at the 2017 Greenbrier Classic. In 2022, he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Patrick Cantlay, the Travelers Championship, and the Genesis Scottish Open. That same year, he missed the cut at the Masters Tournament, but has not missed a cut in any PGA Tour event since.

Schauffele has now made 66 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour. This record is only topped by 82-time PGA Tour winner and golf legend Tiger Woods, who made 142 consecutive cuts between 1998 and 2005.

Speaking on the streak records, Dan Rapaport said (via YouTube):

“And bring back the cut everywhere. I’m also sick of seeing Xander Schauffele’s cut streak put up there next to Tiger Woods’. It’s not the same. There’s always no-cut events or, you know, the cuts at like Memorial, where there’s 20 to 15 guys who missed the cut. The no-cut, the limited field stuff? I’m just over it” [51:26]

“And it's really unfortunate that we've moved away from 140-player fields with a 36-hole cut in recent years. I get the logic behind the Signature Events going with these small fields. They want to make simply qualifying for the event a big deal. But qualifying for any event is a big deal. You're on the PGA Tour.” [51:00]

Rapaport argued that making a cut matters in tournaments and having a cut is “just one of the coolest things” in golf. To further validate his point, he also mentioned the emotional moment when Philip Barbaree Jr. made the 2025 US Open cut into the tournament’s third round. He stated that it was a “powerful scene” and it allows the 26-year-old golfer to proudly say that he made the cut at the prestigious tournament.
