Wyndham Clark came under fire for his role in the Presidents Cup cursing incident, with Tom Kim being on the other side of it. Accusations were thrown, and there was even a now-deleted tweet that called out Clark for his behavior during Team USA's victory.
Now, after the tournament is firmly in the rearview mirror, Clark is opening up on the situation. Si Woo Kim used Steph Curry's iconic celebration to seemingly insinuate that Team USA was done on that hole, something Clark and Tony Finau didn't understand at the time.
Clark managed to praise Kim for an impressive shot via Golf.com:
“But really when it comes down to Si Woo’s deal, I mean, Si Woo’s [chip-in] on 16 is one of the best shots I’ve ever witnessed up close and Si Woo is a dog. He is literally one of my favorite guys on the PGA Tour and has so much talent and you know, that shot was just unbelievable. And that week you could just put a highlight reel of his, like, top 10 of every shot."
He went on to say that he knows that Kim "loves Steph Curry." But he said that even Curry has said not to do the celebration until the game’s over or completely our of reach.
He continued:
"So he did that right in front of Tony Finau and I, and we looked at each other. We’re like, it’s a tight ball game. I don’t understand why you would do that."
Ultimately, everything resulted in another Presidents Cup victory for the Jim Furyk-led Americans, who have dominated this competition for most of its history.
Wyndham Clark opens up on Presidents Cup controversy
Wyndham Clark got called out by some International team members, including in a deleted tweet by Byeong Hun An. Now, he's clearing the air on everything that happened.
Clark said via Golf Monthly that he and his teammates saw an International team playing "unbelievable" and celebrating the success of Tom Kim and others.
He continued:
"And then just some of the other antics that maybe people weren’t seeing on TV, that obviously just kind of gets you to where you’re a little frustrated because some of it was extreme, in my opinion.”
Clark said that the International golfers made "birdie after birdie" on nearly every other hole. The American called it "amazing" and said that the trash-talking and "cussing" was mostly only within their own team. He acknowledged that there were probably some shouts of "let's f*****g go" that might have been where the International Team got it from.
The tension didn't seem to go much further than that, as both sides settled into the competition over the weekend and weren't as feisty.
