Patrick Reed won the Hong Kong Open on Sunday (November 24). The LIV golfer celebrated his first victory in nearly four years by beating defending champion Ben Campbell, a LIV Golf reserve player, in the Asian Tour competition. The 34-year-old golfer bagged the winner’s paycheck of $360,000 from the event’s $2,000,000 prize purse.
For the unversed, Reed shot a 59 in the third round at the Hong Kong Golf Club on Saturday. The historic low round vaulted him into the lead, which he took to the finish line. The golfer carded a 4-under 66 to finish at 22 under for the week and clinched his first win since the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open. The former PGA Tour star sat three shots over New Zealander Campbell.
It is pertinent to note that Reed hasn’t won in 33 events since joining LIV Golf, excluding his two team wins with 4Aces GC in 2023. The golfer’s best results on the breakaway circuit have been a pair of runner-up finishes. Despite the low results, the golfer bagged a whopping $4,492,167 from the LIV circuit in 2024. The $360,000 victory on the Asian Tour adds to the golfer’s bank.
Speaking about the win, Patrick Reed said on Sunday, as quoted by LIVGOLF.com:
“Nothing like coming to a place that I know pretty well and love the golf course. I love how it makes me think about golf shots and you have to be creative around this place. So, to be able to come out and play the way like I did on the weekend ... It always helps shooting 59 yesterday, but the biggest thing, the hardest part, was today.”
Reed has two more events remaining to play on the Asian Tour, which could extend his earnings by a margin. The 2018 Masters champion plans to compete in next week’s International Series Qatar and the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers the week after.
