Rory McIlroy has had a tough week at the 2025 US Open

Rory McIlroy has had a challenging week at the notoriously difficult Oakmont course, and he showed his frustrations while out on the course on more than one occasion.

Heading into the final round tied for 49th at 10-over par, McIlroy had a relatively composed start and managed to make some progress up the leaderboard. Despite stringing together a series of pars across most of the front nine, things began to unravel with back-to-back bogeys on the 9th and 10th.

Earlier in the week, Rory McIlroy was caught on camera angrily tossing one of his clubs and smashing a tee marker in a clear sign of how much the course was getting under his skin.

But Sunday’s outburst brought a bit of unintended comedy. After a disappointing shot, McIlroy started to throw his club in frustration, but seemed to hesitate, only for the club to bounce off his golf bag and come flying right back at him. The awkward moment quickly went viral on social media.
