Danny Lee joined LIV Golf two months ago. Last week, the 32-year-old ended an eight-year drought by winning the LIV Golf League's second event in Tucson. Following the win, the golfer has now come out to state that he is more than happy in the rebel series.

Lee joined the controversial Saudi-backed series after friend and Iron Heads teammate Kevin Na convinced him. The New Zealander reportedly received a good paycheck to make the move as well. However, Lee has now come out to reveal that he didn’t move to LIV for money. The golfer claimed that he “didn’t really need the money” as he made “enough” on the PGA Tour.

Speaking about his move to the controversial LIV Golf League, Danny Lee said, as quoted by Stuff New Zealand:

“I’m not really into talking about politics or anything like that. That’s never been in my interest… Yes, the money is better. But I didn’t really need the money. I played on the PGA Tour for 11-plus years and I made $16 million and my pension is all setup. I don’t have to worry about the money for the rest of my life.”

Danny Lee moved to LIV Golf for its shorter schedule

Danny Lee switched sides to a tour with ‘less pressure.’ The golfer went from scrapping to keeping his PGA Tour card across 26-28 events a year to playing 14 three-day tournaments across the world. Lee’s reasoning for joining LIV Golf almost lives up to people’s criticism of LIV being a “retirement tour.”

Justifying his move to the rebel side, Lee said:

“You get to watch all the best players in the world for three days. There is music everywhere, the spectator tents and the way they set up things is unbelievable.”

He added:

“I have no bad things to say about the PGA Tour, other than I played so many weeks in a row. I wasn't playing well enough to take a month off or anything like that. I had to chip away for my points to get to top 50 on the FedEx or top 100 on the FedEx.

"Now, I don't have to worry about that. I can practice more and take time off, I can get ready for the next event and go over with a fresh mind and body. I can put 110% in."

It is pertinent to note that Lee’s comments come only days after pocketing $4 million for winning LIV Golf Tucson. The golfer went up against the likes of Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith to win in his second-ever outing on the lucrative tour financed by Saudi Arabia.

Lee, who signed a multi-year deal with LIV, celebrated his win last week on the Las Vegas Strip with friends. It’s safe to say that the recently divorced golfer is right at home in the ongoing LIV Golf League.
