A section of golf fans have reacted on social media to a viral video in which Austrian golfer Min Woo Lee was cheered up by a fan during the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics. As the Aussie prepared to take his shot on Friday, August 2, a fan in attendance shouted the popular celebratory phrase "Let him cook" with a French accent.

What caught the fans' attention was the noticable French accent. A golf enthusiast shared a clip of the incident on his X (formerly Twitter) account, and the video quickly went viral. The fan wrote in the caption of the post:

"“Let Him Cook” in a French accent is 10x better. Min Woo nearly jarred it in response too."

Meanwhile, other fans jumped into the comments section to share their opinions. The clip received mixed reactions; while some called it the best video, others dubbed it "creepy."

"I immediately thought: crepes," a fan wrote.
"That was epic I’m happy I watched the video," another fan commented.

Additionally, one fan commented that it sounded like the fan was saying "Le Tim Cook" (CEO of Apple).

"He's saying "Le Tim Cook" which is French for "The Tim Cook (CEO of Apple)," a fan mentioned.
"Interesting," another fan wrote.

Reason behind Min Woo Lee's famous "Let him cook" phrase

Min Woo Lee revealed the origin of his famous "Let Him Cook" phrase in an interview with Sports Illustrated earlier this year. The Australian golfer, often nicknamed "Mr. Chef" and "Dr. Chipinski" by his fans, frequently hears the phrase "Let him cook" as a form of encouragement.

In the interview, Lee explained that it all started when fans commented "let him cook" on his posts, and it quickly became a popular phrase.

"It started in a few of my posts, randomly. I don’t know if someone commented it or I said it. Since then, every time I’ve posted it’s been something to do with “Let Him Cook” or “Chef,” which came after that. It’s nice to have something to relate to me, or something that I started," Min Woo Lee said.

The 26-year-old golfer further explained that the phrase means cheering for someone to do something well or acknowledging that "he's doing well." He added:

"For the people that don’t know what it means, it means “Let him do his thing” or “he’s doing well.” It just kicked off and kept going. I play a lot of “Call of Duty.” If you Google “Let Him Cook,” it’ll say it comes from the gaming world or music videos. I’m not really sure what it is, but hopefully I can override that and they can say that I made it a bit more famous."

Meanwhile, Min Woo Lee teed off at the 2024 Paris Olympics this week but had a tough start, shooting a 76 in the first round, which he described as "garbage."

"It was pretty garbage. But I was saying in the other interview, sometimes you're going to go a little bit backwards to go forwards," Min Woo Lee said (via Golf Digest).

However, he bounced back with a 65 in the second round, tying for 35th place at the event. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, August 4.
