Rory McIlroy missed the cut for The Players Championship underway at TPC Sawgrass. Following that, the current world No. 3 admitted that his performance was negatively affected because of the LIV Golf.

McIlroy has been busy taking up meetings and talking to players since the Saudi-backed series came into existence. His schedule was heavily affected, which had a negative impact on his performance at the Players Championship.

Speaking about his time management, Rory McIlroy said:

"It's just the time management. The golf [at tournaments], that's fine, but it's just more the time at home to make sure you're getting prepared, to make sure that you're doing everything you can to be ready once you show up to these weeks. That's where I've maybe sacrificed a little bit of time with some of this other stuff."

Rory McIlroy finished the first round of The Players Championship at 76 and missed the cut in the second round. The inclement weather had a negative impact on the second round of the Players Championship.

Nonetheless, the tournament concluded with three rounds on Saturday, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, March 12.

Scottie Scheffler led the tournament after the third round, followed by Min Woo Lee for second position, and Cam Davis for third position.

"It's a bit of an enigma"- Rory McIlroy talks about his performance

Rory McIlroy started with a double bogey on the first hole of the opening round. He started his game on the 10th hole and then made a birdie on the 11th hole.

He made a bogey on the 15th hole, two more bogeys on the first and third holes, and a birdie on the fourth hole. Rory wrapped up with a bogey on the last hole and ended the day with a score of 76.

On the second day, the Northern Irishman sank a bogey on the fifth hole and then a double bogey on the sixth hole. He made three birdies and two bogeys in the second round, to finish at a score of 73.

It was arguably one of the worst performances of his career since the Masters in 2019. The Northern Irish golfer opened up about his performance in an interview and said:

"Just very blah. I guess the course, you just have to be really on to play well here. If you're a little off, it definitely magnifies where you are off. It's a bit of an enigma. Some years I come here, it feels easier than others. It's just a tricky golf course, and you don't hit fairways, you've got your work cut out for you."

McIlroy is now more focussed on his game as the Masters approaches. His prime focus is on winning major tournaments this year.

Rory McIlroy also spoke about The Masters and went on to say:

"Just making sure my game is in shape for Augusta. Making sure that I've got all the shots. Making sure that I familiarize myself with the golf course again and go up there for a couple of days. But, yeah, from now all the way until the start of April, it's really just all about getting ready for Augusta."
