Sergio Garcia was not available for the European Ryder Cup team selection as he joined the LIV Golf League and resigned from the DP World Tour. However, he did make a last-ditch attempt to assure his future at the prestigious match-play by offering to pay the outstanding fine of $867,345. Yet, the request was declined.

With the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and PIF mega-merger deal already in place, the chances for all the players on the Breakaway series to return to their respective Tours sometime in the near future don't seem inevitable.

However, Sergio Garcia recently spoke about the extra effort he put in to secure his future with the leading European Tour. He was seemingly disappointed with the response from the CEO Keith Pelley. He shared that despite the CEO assuring him of better results next year, Pelley did not try to encourage him to become a member again.

As quoted by the Mirror, Garcia said,

"The answer was there was no chance. When he told me that there was no point going forward with anything else. I'm not going to make the extra effort if I'm not going to get any love back from them. Pelley said hopefully next year everything will be more favorable for all of us but he did not encourage me to become a member."

Sergio Garcia shared that he will make a decision upon consulting with his family and try to determine the best course of action. He said,

"That is a decision I will make with my family and will try to see what is the best thing we can do. At the moment, the feeling is not amazing. We will see where we end up when the new year starts. It is what it is."

"That's what I wanted" - Sergio Garcia wished to become a member of the DP World Tour again

The 2017 Masters champion's attempts to rejoin the DP World Tour were totally shattered after his offer to pay all his fines was rejected.

Garcia wanted to be part of the European Ryder Cup team and acknowledged that it would require a DP World Tour membership to gain a place in the upcoming Rome event. He said,

"I called and asked him about the possibility of me being a member of the Tour again. I knew I had to be a member to have any possibility of being a part of the European team in Rome."

Sergio Garcia added that he knew if he had paid all the fines and played the minimum required number of tournaments, then he could have made it into the Ryder Cup team.

"That's what I wanted, if I paid all my fines and played the minimum number of tournaments required. I was willing to do both, though it would not be ideal because I would have had to play 10 out of 11 or 12 weeks (before the end of the season)."

Although Sergio Garcia's doors for the Ryder Cup selection are closed and the tournament is just over a week away, he will still be seen golfing this week. He will be playing at LIV Golf Chicago, which will be held from September 22 to 24.
