Viktor Hovland finished tied for second at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. The first of three FedExCup playoffs concluded on Sunday, August 18, at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

Hovland earned 980 FedExCup points for his performance at TPC Southwind. He jumped from 57th to 16th in the FedExCup standings. However, his performance this year hasn't been linear. After the second round, he talked about his form, saying (via Golf.com):

"I mean, it feels like it's been a lot of peaks and valleys. I mean, it's just not that fun to play golf when you don't know where the ball is going. And like, I do pride myself in trying to make the best out of it. But it gets to a point where you kind of lose that belief yourself. Like, you just see a shot and that's not good enough."

Viktor Hovland further said that he can grind the hardest but doing it often during a round or a tournament becomes overwhelming. He said that it's pointless to play golf when you're struggling and don't know what's wrong.

The Norwegian player said that he was unsure of when he'll reach his best form but remained dedicated to 'path of improvement.' The 26-year-old further said:

"Whereas before, one thing is playing bad, but you don't know why. And you don't know how to fix it. That's very challenging mentally. I might play terrible this week, but at least I feel like I'm on a path to improvement. And that's all that kind of matters for me."

Hovland had scored 70 and 63 in the first two rounds. He followed with scores of 66 and 66, again, in the third and fourth rounds to finish with an aggregate score of 15-under 265.

Viktor Hovland won $1,760,000 of the total prize purse of $20 million. He will next participate in the 2024 BMW Championship from August 22 to 25 at Castle Pines.
