Matt McCarty has had an unbelievable last few months. The 26-year-old recently won the Black Desert Championship at Black Desert Golf Course in Ivins, Utah. He won the tournament by three strokes over Stephan Jaeger.
McCarty started the year on the Korn Ferry Tour, his third season for the quest of PGA Tour card. He won three tournaments and advanced to the PGA Tour by three-victory promotion. He became the first player to advance to a PGA Tour card through this method after Mito Periera in 2020-21.
In a recent Golf.com SUBPAR podcast episode, McCarty was asked which event was he most excited about in 2025, other than the Masters, and an event that would be a must-attend for him. Even though McCarty received an exemption to the 2025 Masters after his recent PGA Tour win, he named the Phoenix Open and The Sentry.
McCarty said:
"Phoenix and going to the Waste. I think just growing up there growing out to that event and how much I know a ton of people out there just on any given day but the fact that I'm going to be playing."
Matt McCarty was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, and went to Desert Mountain High School. The 2025 WM Phoenix Open will be held at TPC Scottsdale, Arizona from February 6 to 9. The 26-year-old said:
"And kind of have that support out there and that atmosphere will be fun too like it's pretty crazy. But I think it'll be fun to make birdies and see how it's going out there," he added.
Talking about the Sentry, McCarty said:
"And then honestly now like getting into the century and being able to go to Maui for new years and having that week will be a really cool experience as well. And like you were talking about seeing all those guys that I've watched succeed for a long time and that have all you know obviously won in the last year as well it'll be be pretty cool."
The 2025 Sentry will be held at Kapalua Resort in Maui, Hawaii from January 2 to 5. In the interview, McCarty also talked about his win at the PGA Tour in the Black Desert Championship and securing his place at the Masters to play at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club.
