Scottie Scheffler went viral for showing up at the infamous Dallas bar Inwood Tavern after winning the Masters. It's not exactly a short trip from Augusta back to Dallas, but he and his wife Meredith, who is pregnant, hit the bar for a brief celebration after a huge victory.
When this came out, there were questions about Scheffler not getting home to be with his pregnant wife, but she was reportedly there. According to Golf Digest, she was cool with everything, as Scheffler said:
"Meredith was down."
Having a house in the Dallas area, Scheffler is aware of the local venues that have become so iconic. He has not often visited them, and decided after his win that it was as good a time as any to grace the bar with his presence and a green jacket.
Scheffler said on Sirius XM:
"We were only there for about 15 minutes... Meredith picked us up at the airport, it was me, a few of my buddies... My house is about five minutes from the airport... I don't really frequent those places all that often, but if there was ever a time, after winning the Masters, I think it was a time for us to go in there. We had a drink and then we left, that's it."
He added that Fireball was his drink of choice before he and his wife got out and went back home. It was a brief outing, but it is one that patrons and employees of Inwood Tavern won't forget soon.
Scottie Scheffler reflects on Masters victory
After sealing his victory in the Masters with a putt, Scottie Scheffler didn't have the most emotional reaction. Some tournament winners, especially in big tournaments, let everything out at the moment of victory, but Scheffler remained pretty calm - this time.
Via USA Today, Scheffler said he wanted to try and keep his emotions in check this time around:
“I kept my head down. I don't think I even took my hat off and waved to the crowd walking up 18. I did my best to stay in the moment, and I wanted to finish off the tournament in the right way. And I got to soak it in there after 1-putting instead of 4-putting, which was a little bit better.”
Scheffler said he loves winning and hates losing. So when he found himself right in the middle of the biggest moments over the weekend, and with the lead on Sunday, his desire to win took over.
And even though he anticipates some major changes to his life once his child is born, he doesn't anticipate any changes to his competitive nature. He might see golf as a lower priority, but that doesn't mean he's not going to avidly chase victory when he plays.
With how good he's playing right now, it's hard to imagine anyone defeating him. He has three wins in his last four starts, and was one putt and a playoff from a fourth win in those starts. One of them was a Major, the other a PGA Tour Signature Event, and the other the Players Championship.
