Maverick McNealy recently shared a wholesome deal he has made with his grandmother Marmalee Noffke McNealy. The 29-year-old PGA Tour player emerged victorious at the recently concluded RSM Classic.
McNealy remained on top of the leaderboard after an impressive first round of 62. He finished the tournament with a score of 16-under 266. In the post-tournament, McNealy was asked if his grandmother was too nervous to watch the final and if he had spoken to her yet and had a message for her. The RSM Classic Champion said (via Golf Digest):
"I haven't gotten to talk to her yet. I've had a deal since my days on the Korn Ferry Tour where if I make $50,000 in a given week I had to send her flowers, and she doesn't seem to mind that that happens a lot more with PGA Tour purses than on the Korn Ferry Tour. It's kind of her bragging rights around the retirement home, and then top ten she gets chocolates as well."
Maverick McNealy played 28 tournaments on the PGA Tour this year. He made more than $50,000 on 13 occasions this year. He further shared that if he doesn't follow up on the deal then 'weird stuff' happens to him. He said:
"My grandma's a witch. If I forget to send her flowers, weird stuff happens. Food poisoning, clubs snap, balls crack. It's the weirdest stuff ever, so I gotta stay on that, but I should probably get her something a little extra special for winning, but she's my biggest fan."
He further shared that watching him golf isn't just a pastime for her but it keeps her going. He also shared that her grandmother doesn't let anyone talk when she is watching him play.
