The 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples recently garnered some controversy after making some quirky remarks about LIV golfers like Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia.

Nuclr Golf shared Fred's recent remarks on their Twitter account that he would not be backing off from his earlier remarks. Fans, after reading the tweet, could not help reacting. One of them wrote,

Fans react to Fred Couples' comments on LIV golfers ahead of the 2023 Masters dinner

After a practice session at Augusta on Monday, former No. 1 Fred Couples stated that he does not regret his earlier remarks, calling Phil Mickelson a 'nutbag' and Sergio Gracia a 'clown.' He added that all he was doing was replying to their comments:

"Not Backing Down — Fred Couples doubles down after calling Phil a 'nutbag' & Sergio a 'clown' in recent weeks: 'If one wants to stop and ask why I'm picking on them (at the champions dinner) then I’m all for it, but I don't really think I've done anything horrific. They're making comments and I’m replying to them. That's it.'"

Just after Nuclr Golf shared this update, fans jumped in to share their opinions in the comments section. Some fans came out in support of Fred Couples:

Fred also had to face the heat of fans from the other side. Some called him an 'underachiever' and some questioned whether any LIV golfer made comments about him.

On Monday, Fred Couples clarified that these remarks were a reply to comments from LIV Golfers on the PGA Tour. Fred feels that everyone playing out there is a golfer and so is he. But later on, he added that he would not tolerate any disrespect to the tour to which he gave 43 years of his life.

Fred will next be seen at the 2023 Augusta Masters on April 6. Fans can watch the TV broadcast on ESPN and CBS.
