PGA Tour debuts new Drone tech at RBC Canadian Open

The PGA Tour has introduced a new Drone AR smart tracing technology during the 2025 RBC Canadian Open. At this week's event, which started with its first round on Thursday, June 5, fans were introduced to a new feature of the drone technology.

On the ninth hole of the RBC Canadian Open, when Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre, and Corey Conners played their shot, it showed with visually different colored lights. These colored lights were used to project the resting location of the tee shot.

It picks the tee shot just after 1.2 seconds after a player hits it and, using real-time possibilities, calculates the expected position. The PGA Tour has been trying to improve the experience of the audience by introducing more advanced technologies.

Meanwhile, after the opening round of the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, Thorbjørn Olesen took the lead in the game at 9-under in a tie with Cristobal Del Solar. Cameron Champ settled in solo third place. The tournament has a cutline after 36 holes and is scheduled to wrap up with its finale on Sunday, June 8.
