PGA Tour move World Wide Technology Championship from Mayakoba to Tiger Woods-designed golf course in Mexico

Tiger Woods' golf course set to host PGA Tour event

The PGA Tour is shifting one of their events to a Tiger Woods-designed golf course. Rather than hold the World Wide Technology Championship in Mayakoba, the Tour is hosting it on a course fashioned by the legendary golfer himself.

Woods, as he approaches a reality where he cannot compete very much on the Tour, has become a pretty prominent course designer in recent years. He's done well on a few projects, leading some to believe he's an underrated and understated course architect.

This will be the first major test of one of his courses though. A big PGA Tour event like this being held on his own course is a huge step for his designing career.

PGA Tour executive Tyler Dennis said in a statement via CBS Sports:

"We are excited to build on our partnership with World Wide Technology as we continue to develop the growth of our sport in Mexico and across Latin America. The support of World Wide Technology, coupled with a championship golf course, will ensure that the PGA Tour's fall schedule will continue to deliver moments of drama and consequence."

El Cardonal, which is the course that will host the WWT match, is among Woods' ever-growing portfolio of courses across the globe. It's a list that currently includes Payne's Valley in Missouri, Bluejack National in Texas, and The Hay, a smaller course near Pebble Beach.

The PGA Tour moving an event to his own course is just the beginning of what seems like a very bright future in architecture for Tiger Woods.

He recently announced that he'd be partnering with MLB superstar Mike Trout to design a course in New Jersey.

Trout also spoke about the project recently as he said via ESPN:

"I could put down roots anywhere in the country, but Jessica and I make south Jersey our off-season home and always cherish the time we get to spend there. I love south Jersey and I love golf, so creating Trout National-The Reserve is a dream come true. And then to add to that, we'll have a golf course designed by Tiger? It's just incredible to think that this project has grown to where we're going to be working with someone many consider the greatest and most influential golfer of all time."

Woods echoed the excitement about the project in a statement of his own:

"I've always enjoyed watching Mike on the diamond, so when the opportunity arose to work with him on Trout National-The Reserve, I couldn't pass it up. It's a great site for golf and our team's looking forward to creating a special course for Mike, Jessica, John, and Lorie."

These two sporting legends have great respect for one another. Woods is widely considered the greatest golfer ever and Trout has a case for being the best baseball player of all time.

The partnership represents a huge step for the sports world and a major step for Tiger Woods' post-golf career in designing courses.
