Phil Mickelson’s ‘wild’ shot at LIV Virginia gets a big reaction from ex-LIV CEO Greg Norman’s son

Phil Mickelson stole the limelight in the third round of the 2025 LIV Golf Virginia with an impressive shot on the 17th hole. The American golfer was in contention for the title after two rounds. He settled in a tie for fifth after 36 holes, and in the final on Sunday, June 8, he made a remarkable shot from a bunker on the 17th, resulting in a birdie on the hole.

Mickelson's amazing shot left the fans cheering loudly for the six-time Major winner, and even Greg Norman Jr. praised the American golfer. The son of the former LIV Golf CEO shared a video of Phil Mickelson's shot on X, and in the caption, he called it "wild." Sharing the post, Norman Jr. wrote:

"This angel of @PhilMickelson shot is wild. Truly one of the best golf shots any of us have seen. Epic!"

It was a phenomenal outing from Phil Mickelson ahead of the 2025 U.S. Open. The HyFlyers GC captain will next tee off at the Oakmont Golf Course and is looking forward to clinching the title to complete his career grand slam. Mickelson settled in second place at the U.S. Open six times in his career and is still seeking a win at the Major.

Phil Mickelson reflects on his impressive shot on 17 at LIV Golf Virginia

Phil Mickelson started the final round of the 2025 LIV Golf Virginia on the first tee hole and made three birdies on the front nine. On the back nine, he made two more birdies and a bogey on the 15th.

Mickelson carded an impressive birdie on the 17th, and in the post-round press conference, he reflected on his shot, saying, via ASAP Sports:

"So that was one of my better ones. It was one of my better ones. I don't know what to say because I have to aim so far left because I'm hooking it over my shoulder and trying to guess how much it's going to hook is the challenge. But it wasn't hard stopping it.

"It was hard guessing how much it was going to hook because it was soft greens and I had such an uphill lie, the ball was going to go high, but just judging how much the ball was going to come over my shoulder, that was the challenge. Even I was a little bit surprised," he added.

Phil Mickelson then made a birdie on the 18th to settle for a score of 6-under. With a total of 13-under, the former Masters winner tied for fourth place in the game. Joaquin Niemann won the LIV Golf Virginia 2025. Second-round leader Anirban Lahiri tied for second place in a tie with Graeme McDowell after the final round.
