Sergio Garcia tied for second at LIV Golf Chicago. The last individual LIV event for the 2024 season concluded on Sunday, September 17 at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Garcia scored 8-under 202 in the three rounds at the LIV event. Jon Rahm won the tournament by three shots over Garcia and Joaquin Niemann. Garcia finished third in the LIV Golf individual standings, behind Rahm and Niemann.
The 44-year-old Spaniard turned professional in 1999. In a press conference during the event in Chicago, the Fireballs GC captain was asked how he keeps his body and mind in shape to compete and stay at the top of the leaderboards.
Garcia said,
"No, I've always stayed very active. I'm not going to lie to you. I'm not the kind of guy that is a very gym kind of guy. I mean, I've gone through that, probably in my 20s and early 30s. But I like to stay very active. Obviously, I like to...I play a lot of soccer. I still play a lot of tennis, play other sports that keep me in shape."
Garcia further credited his wife Angela Akins and his two children, Azalea and Enzo, for keeping him fit.
"Obviously, my wife keeps me in shape. She's even fitter than me. So, all those things help. And running around two little kids that are super active also keeps you very fit.
"So it's been fun just, like I said, staying active and doing things that you love doing, that you enjoy. And at the same time, they can help you with fitness," Garcia said.
Garcia has 37 wins in his career, including 11 on the PGA Tour. His list of victories includes a Major, the 2017 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
