Taylor Moore wins maiden PGA Tour title at the Valspar Championship four years after suffering a collapsed lung

Taylor Moore came from behind to defeat Adam Schenk at the 2023 Valspar Championship. The American golfer carded 67 in the final round to finish at a scoring deficit of 10.

Schenk, who maintained his lead for the past three days, slipped down to second position in the finale with a score under 9.

Moore started the final round with a birdie on the first hole and then a bogey on the seventh. He made five birdies to finish at 67, resulting in securing his first PGA Tour victory in four years after suffering a lung collapse.

Taylor Moore was three-strokes behind the lead after the third round. However, his performance in the finale helped him win the trophy.

Speaking at the winner's conference, Moore revealed that four years back he was headed to the airport but took a turn and went to the hospital where he came to know about his lung, which was 50 percent collapsed. He said (via Golf Week):

“I think if I would have taken a left, I might not be here in front of you guys tonight. So, I mean, that was God’s will just to tell me to take a right and go to the hospital and check out what was going on.”

He went on to appreciate and thank his coach. Moore added:

“Just a testament to the work I’ve put in with my coach and my team and that was pretty sick to see.”

It is important to note that Taylor Moore took home a check of $1.4 million from the purse of $8.1 million.


The early and professional life of Taylor Moore

Taylor Moore was born on 28 July 1993 in San Angelo, Texas. He has been into sports since his school days. While studying at the University of Arkansas, Moore chose to play varsity baseball. However, he later developed an interest in golfing and focused on building a career in it.

His first college win in golf boosted his confidence and Taylor Moore developed a keen interest in the game. He had a successful amateur career and registered wins in numerous tournaments.

He started his professional PGA Tour career at the Fortinet Championship held in September 2022.

Moore made his PGA Tour debut finishing in T36. He then competed at the Sanderson Farms Championship and finished in the 24th position. Unfortunately, the American golfer missed the cut at the Shrines Children's Open but soon had a blast at the Zozo Championship where he finished at T12.

Taylor Moore also played in the 2022 CJ Cup and was tied for 23rd position. Nonetheless, his career curve witnessed a downfall and Moore missed the cut in three consecutive tournaments.

He started the new year playing at The American Express but missed the cut. His best finish was recorded at the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open, where he finished in T11.

Moore had also played at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and finished in 15th place, which was increased to 14th at the WM Phoenix Open. Having missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational Open, Moore finished in 39th position at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then in 35th at the Players Championship.
