ZOZO, a Japanese clothing company, sponsors it; thus, the name and it is jointly sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour and the PGA Tour.
The 2023 ZOZO Championship will start on October 19, 2023, and conclude on October 22, 2023, at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, Chiba, Japan.
The 2023 ZOZO Championship's official website states, "The ZOZO Championship, now celebrating its 5th year of competition, will kick off on October 19th! The world's top players will gather again on the big stage, where countless dramatic moments have already unfolded."
"This year's highly anticipated tournament will be held just like the inaugural playing in 2019, having no restrictions on gallery attendance, mask-wearing, or limitations on cheering during the competition."
ZOZO Championship Fall 2023 History
It is the first PGA Tour-sanctioned event in Japan, and the agreement will last at least until 2025. The Japan Golf Tour would co-sanction it as well. Tiger Woods won the first championship, marking his 82nd PGA Tour triumph. This equaled Sam Snead's all-time record.
Due to persistent travel restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic, the tournament was relocated to Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California, in October 2020. However, the 2020 ZOZO Championship lost the involvement of the Japan Golf Tour and became a PGA Tour event with a single sanction.
In 2021, the competition made a comeback in Japan and was authorized by both the PGA Tour and the Japan Golf Tour. However, it was an unofficial Japan Golf Tour money event. Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale were beaten by Hideki Matsuyama by five strokes as he aced the last hole in his native Japan.
Keegan Bradley won the 2022 ZOZO Championship. Rickie Fowler, who was attempting to win on the PGA Tour for the first time since 2019, was defeated by Keegan, who finished at 15-under-265 overall. Three players tied for fifth place, and Emiliano Grillo took solo fourth on a 13-under total.
