“This isn’t mine; It’s his” - Richard Bland gets emotional talking about his brother Heath after Senior PGA Championship win 

LIV golfer Richard Bland got emotional while talking about his brother Heath after winning the 2024 Senior PGA Championship. At the senior Major, Bland secured an incredible victory by three strokes over Richard Green.

Following the Major, Richard Bland spoke to the media and dedicated his win to his older brother, who has been battling lung cancer. Previously, Heath was diagnosed with stomach cancer, and just last week, the Bland family learned that he has also been battling with lung cancer.

Speaking of Heath, Richard said that the trophy is for him. He stated (via LIV Golf):

"This isn’t mine. It’s his. "

Richard Bland further reflected on the tough time when his brother was in a coma for six weeks back in 2017. He added:

"He was in a coma for six weeks over Christmas end of 2017; actually died twice. So when I started back playing in January, we didn't know whether he was going to survive or not. It wasn't until about July, August that we knew he was pretty much OK.”

Richard Bland shot a 63 in the final round of the event to finish with a score of 17-under par. Meanwhile, Richard Green fired a 65 on Sunday, jumping three spots on the leaderboard to take the second place with a score of 14-under par.

Greg Chalmers was on top at the start of the final round, but a round of 68 forced him to slip down to third place. He was followed by Scott Hend and Jason Caron, who tied for fourth place.

Richard Bland speaks about his performance at 2024 Senior PGA Championship

Richard Bland took the lead after the second round of the 2024 Senior PGA Championship but struggled in the third round when he shot 74. However, his game improved in the final round, and he went on to shoot 63 and clinched the senior Major in his debut at the tournament.

Speaking of his performance, Bland said (via Golf Digest):

“I think I put the fright in my putter. I went out on the putting green with a different putter. I putted so poorly yesterday. I brought a different putter with me and kind of scared my gamer, thinking about putting a different putter in there. I’m glad I didn’t.

Richard Bland last won an event at the 2021 Betfred British Masters when he defeated Guido Migliozzi in a playoff. The English golfer has won three professional events in his career, including one on the European Tour, one on the Challenge Tour, and one on the PGA Tour Champions.

Bland joined the LIV Golf series in 2022 and currently plays on the circuit. His victory at the Senior Major helped the Englishman earn an exemption to compete at the US Senior Open, which is scheduled for next month.
