Tiger Woods remains sidelined with the Achilles tendon injury he sustained earlier this year, and will not be teeing up at Oakmont CC this week. But the legendary golfer has shared some insight on the course for those taking part in the US Open this week.

Oakmont CC is often regarded as one of the toughest golf courses in the United States. The often-narrow fairways and lightning fast greens make it tough for golfers to score birdies and eagles. Woods played in Oakmont Country Club while he was competing in the 2007 U.S. Open. Even though he could not clinch the title, Woods understood the course pretty well.

In a recent video shared by Woods' apparel brand Sun Day Red (via Instagram), the 82-time PGA Tour winner described how golfers can succeed at Oakmont CC. Ahead of the 125th U.S. Open, Tiger Woods shared how challenging it might get at the iconic golf venue. Take a look at the tips he shared for this week's major participants:

"You just have to hit the golf ball well there... The golf course is big, yes, but it's just, there's no way around it. You just have to hit the golf ball well. And they favor longer hitters, just because of the degrees, the complexes."

Tiger Woods also said in the clip:

"It just helps so much for coming with a shorter iron, to be able to sock the ball. It's about missing the ball in the correct spots..."

Tiger Woods took on the unforgiving roughs and deep bunkers of Oakmont CC almost two decades ago. At the 2007 U.S. Open, Woods delivered a strong performance. While other PGA Tour pros struggled, Woods stayed in contention due to his consistent short-game.

Woods displayed elite accuracy which was evident when he shot a 2-over par 72 over the final 18 holes at Oakmont. He finished one stroke behind the winner Ángel Cabrera.

A very few golfers get the chance to share a round with the legendary pro, but Nick Dougherty once got this opportunity. After shooting seven-over par, he got the opportunity to play alongside Woods during the 2016 U.S. Open's round 3.

According to Dougherty, his moment with Woods was his favourite golfing memory. He said in an interview with talkSPORT:

"the day I played with Tiger Woods is probably my favourite golfing day of my career... Tiger was a pleasure to play with... as a competitor, he was playing a different sport to me!"

He also recalled the final round where Woods made playing in Oakmont look easy.

"Watching Tiger play Oakmont, it was tough to fathom how he was making it look so easy. He missed one fairway, one green, shot 69, and made it look ridiculously simple."

In a tournament that ultimately saw a 5-over par 285 as the winning score, Woods' course IQ, adaptation and mental clarity helped him power through. Tiger ultimately ended up tied on the runner-up's spot, just one shot away from the winner.
