Tommy Fleetwood had earlier expressed his heartbreak on X over the tragedy. He had written:

"As a parent myself it’s difficult to even comprehend what has happened and what they have ahead of them, but I know the whole community in Southport will come together to support them. My heart will always be in Southport and together with my family we are sending all of our love to the people of my home town."

Fleetwood shares a six-year-old son Frankie with his wife Clare Craig. He also has two stepchildren from his wife's first marriage.

Tommy Fleetwood is currently representing Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He earlier represented the country in the Seve Trophy (2013) and Hero Cup (2023).

How is Tommy Fleetwood performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Tommy Fleetwood has started strongly in the 2024 Paris Olympics. After 36 holes, he is tied with Xander Schauffele (USA) and Hideki Matsuyama (Japan). The men's golf competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics is being held at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.

Fleetwood has an aggregate score of 11-under 131. After carding 67 in the first round, the English golfer scored 64 in the second round. He jumped from T12 in the first round to T1 in the second round. Talking about his performance in the round, Fleetwood said (via PGA Tour):

"You're always better off coming to a course where you have good feelings and good things have happened. So I'll definitely draw on those. But again, I have to stand up there tomorrow and hit the golf shots. Nothing that's happened in the past is going to do it for me."

In the post-round press conference, he also said that he'd prefer to win an Olympic Gold Medal instead of finishing his career without any Majors. The 33-year-old golfer hasn't won a Major after turning professional in 2010. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"Still got a Gold Medal, right, I kind of look at things -- I try and look at things through the eyes of like Frankie, for instance, my son, at six years old. If I had a Gold Medal, he would always take when I was gone or whatever, and I think what an unbelievably special thing to have."

He has a decent record in Majors with seven top-5 finishes in 37 starts but hasn't been successful yet. However, he hoped to win both a Major and a gold medal.
